Hi all! Thought I would post a few pics of the inspiration boards I have hanging on the main wall in my studio/office/dog-napping-squeaky-toy-hoarding-room. I saw the neatest post on Anna Dorfman's blog, Door 16, about the C-U-T-E-S-T bistro lights. Well, it was actually a post on entertaining her friends for the weekend, BUT, she posted a picture showing her sweet little garden at night, and the lights were hanging from her fence. Needless to say, I fell in love with them, and immediately clicked on the link she so thoughtfully included in her post. And guess what? They can be found in the outdoor lighting section at Target for only $12.00! Gotta love that! In fact, let me do the dirty work for ya...click right here and order some for yourself. They have frosted ones as well, but I wanted the clear strands for my office. Oh, and while you're at it, check out their super-cute "vintagey" caged string lights, too. They have a sort of industrial feel to them, and would look adorable hanging above a rustic old farmhouse table as a makeshift chandelier. Seriously, if it were up to me, I would drape string lights all over the place. Even in the damn bathroom. But I digress...
Okay, so, after purchasing the lights for the sole purpose of hanging them in my studio/office/dog-napping-squeaky-toy-hoarding-room, I had to figure out where the hell I was going to put them. The most obvious thing would have been to drape them around the tops of the curtains that are covering the three office windows. Yawn. Okay, so, what next? Around the massive closet doors that run along the opposite wall? Eww. Nope. The tiny wall above my desk? Nope again. That just left me with the only large, main wall in my office...the wall with the inspiration boards. And, because I'm insane and have a mean case of OCD, that would mean having to redo ALL FIVE of my inspiration boards, because why would you hang pretty new lights around a bunch of boards that have older pictures pinned to them? Pictures that have, over time, become slightly askew? Well, you wouldn't! At least, I wouldn't. Thus began my 5 day office wall makeover/cleaning frenzy.
To tell you the truth, the boards don't look THAT much different from the way they looked originally. I mean, I can see it, but I'm sure my boyfriend, friends, parents, etc., probably thought that they were exactly the same. Oh well. I tend to change them when I start craving a new color palette. And in this case, I was tired of the boards being covered in pastels. So, I gathered together various shades of red, pink, grey, turquoise, and lots of black. And now, I'm pleased. (One of the MANY reasons why renting sucks: You can't paint, wallpaper, or tear anything down. So when I need a fix of color, I throw it up on my boards.)
I still haven't finished the little wall above my desk, and every time I sit down at my computer, I get an immediate headache. Ugh...little nail holes, smudges from previous artwork. God, I just CAN'T STAND IT! Which is probably why I'm on my laptop in another room about 85% of the time. Spending any amount of time in a space that feels chaotic or messy is enough to push me over the edge. But, at this point, I have no idea what the heck to do with it. Again, that would be another great spot for some wallpaper.
As you can see, Bonny was a HUGE help. As I cleaned, scrubbed, and organized, and as my boyfriend climbed up and down a ladder, hanging my lights, Bonny kept watch under my "crafting table". Actually, she crawled under there after giving up on begging for a 3 Musketeers candy bar. Yes, that is one of the 30 empty wrappers, shown in the picture above, that accumulated after a day of frustration and allergies. There is nothing I hate more than dusting, except for skinny jeans and that new, hideous "mullet dress" trend, but it's a necessary evil when you're horribly allergic to...well...dust.
Okay, my darlings. I certainly hope everyone had a fabulous 4th of July holiday, and I promise to post again soon. I've been working on some doodles lately, hoping that a wave of inspiration will hit me, so I should have a little something by this weekend. My goal is to come up with a few, and post them on Spoonflower as fabric. I can't seem to find any cool curtains that are within my budget, so I intend on making some panels all by my little self. Now...if only I had a sewing machine. Hmpf.
Hope everyone has a fantastic week, and I look forward to talking at ya soon! Oh, and thanks so much for stopping by for a visit. I certainly appreciate it bunches!!!
Much love,
Deirdre
