So, a few days ago, while perusing the internet late at night (note to self: Chewy Sweet-Tarts are NOT an appropriate "before bed" snack), I happened upon some of Andy Warhol's earlier work. Now, this wasn't the typical Warhol stuff...you know, the Liz Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Campbell's Soup Can, Brillo Pad schlock that I can't stand. Instead, I stumbled upon his earlier, FAB-U-LOUS illustrations. Cats, shoes, Christmas ornaments, even butterflies! My favorites, however, are the ice cream cones. They're pretty flat, even a little whimsical, which I love. And the brightness of the colors...well, let's just say that's right up my alley. Soooo...inspiration found. My turn.
As I've mentioned before, lately I've been trying really hard to keep my drawings from being too structured. It's very difficult for me to be loose with my lines and color (thanks, OCD). So, running across Warhol's drawings has given me a nice nudge in the right direction. That doesn't mean I'm going to totally stop doing my labor intensive illustrations, but sometimes it's nice to take a break and doodle in bed while watching "junk tv" (Big Brother, I'm talkin' to you!).
Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Oh, and try to stay cool. I mean, is anyone else counting down the days until fall? Bring it on, Mother Nature. Bring it.
Thanks for stopping by for a visit, and take care, all! xoxoxoDeirdre

I meant "reflective". Sorry

The sundae glass is superb. What's your secret? It's transparent, yet refective. Great job.
