...a few of my favorite things.
As the weather grows hellishly warmer, and pollen, cottonwood, and small winged creatures begin to make the outdoorsy part of my life distasteful and repellent, I begin to find things to do around the house. In other words, something fun to do in the comfort of shade and central air...thus minimizing my interaction with all things nature. Now, THAT'S how one should spend a summer. (Can I get Amen?)
For the last few months, I have been toying with the idea of redecorating the living room. Nothing huge, of course, cause I'm not one of the "Real Housewives", and my budget won't allow it. Just maybe a few coats of paint, possibly new curtains, etc. However, prior to starting all of that, I have decided to reorganize EVERYTHING. All of the kitchen cabinets, done. Pantry, done. Living room cabinets, done. Bookshelves...finally, freakin' DONE!
Unfortunately, after the bookshelves were done, I was left with a MASSIVE empty spot in a rather awkward area...directly below a shelf, and directly above stacks and stacks of books and magazines. What's a girl to do? I'll tell ya what she does. She gets her glitter on.
Armed with nothing more than a $1 vintage children's book, a bottle of Martha Stewart's finely ground sterling glitter, a pair of scissors, Mod Podge, and a ball of string, I set about making some heart shaped garland. And, by God, I filled up that empty space...and left a trail of silver glitter in my wake. I mean, it's in my bath mat. Still.
Oh, and just a word of advice. If you want to use a vintage book, I suggest giving your pages a coat of Mod Podge on both sides. Older pages get pretty weak, and tear SO easily. As for getting the glitter along the edges, just dip your "shape" into a shallow tray of the glue, and then dip it again in a shallow tray of glitter. Seriously, it's as easy as can be. Just wear old clothing, and try to keep the glitter contained...cause I spent a good part of the week looking as though I rubbed up against a stripper pole.
